Working out at Chesapeake Boathouse
Posted 1/29/2009 12:00:00 AM
I'm in "training" for the Corporate Indoor Rowing Challenge at the Chesapeake Boathouse gym. I put it in quotes because I've never trained for anything physical in my life. But I'm enjoying it. The trainers at the Chesapeake Boathouse gym are very helpful, and there are enough of them that someone is always available. I've rowed in dragon boats, and in an eight-person boat before, but never for an indoor challenge. So far, I've rowed over 10,000 meters on an erg machine. That sounds like a lot, until you remember that a meter is only about three feet. Oh well, it's still an impressive number for me. I've also been doing strength training for my core. Since I'm new to this, one of the trainers told me that my core is actually just my mid-section. But the word core sounds so much cooler.
If you've ever been intrigued about rowing in the Oklahoma River, you can take lessons for a few weeks without having to purchase an annual membership at the boathouse. It's really fun, and if you like trying new things, you'll enjoy it. And, when you call the Chesapeake Boathouse, ask them about the special three-month gym membership for KRXO listeners. I'll be updating this blog every few days to let you know how I'm doing. Wish me luck!
